Ake no Tobari Ch. 296-297 & CnR-KM Ch. 41

Nanaten here. How is everyone doing? It's been a while. Anyway, here's the things that you've been missing:

Did another online appearance at Midtown Festival

I was invited once again to participate in a Karaoke event. This time I sang Sleep Walking Orchestra from Delicious in Dungeon. Speaking of, I remember one of the early review I made on this blog was Delicious in Dungeon volume 1. Unfortunately, it got taken down because of DMCA. Actually, a lot of my manga reviews in this blog got DMCA's a couple of years ago smh.

Doing one youtube short everyday

I wanted to gather a way to get more views and more subscriber on youtube. So I took one of Jason Thor's advice and make one youtube short every single day for the entire month. I noticed a significant jump in views and subscribers. The short is mostly a simple one, like twitch clips, or beat saber gameplay. Playing beat saber is such a good youtube shorts content generator in general. Hopefully I can gather enough to get youtube membership this year.

Preparing for my brother's wedding

For the past couple of months, my family has been planning for my brother's wedding. We took a roadtrip to visit the bride's family and get to know the in-laws. It was my first time meeting her, as when my brother started dating, I already moved out. One particular thing I remember from our first meeting is that she mentioned how she watched one of my youtube videos.

"Which one?" I asked.

I can't believe I rode 250 km on my scooter for this shit. Still, she seems like a pleasant fellow.

Ake no Tobari is close to 300 Chapters!!!

Yo, what a milestone! Three hundred chapteroos!! It's been eight years since I started working on this series. And we're getting closer and closer to the end. I already downloaded all of the remaining raws. Which is fortunate because Comico decided to paywall the majority of the chapters starting this month. When this series is done, I'm cutting all ties with that app/website.

To celebrate the 300 chapters I want to do something special. Starting with making commemorative T-shirts of Tobari and Reimei. I already commissioned an artist to come up with the design and I'm looking for a maker so you guys can order it internationally. I would also like to do a commemmorative stream where I invited a bunch of friends and we would do an online table read of the comic. Right now, I'm looking for participants. So look forward to that.

Onto the chapters

As per usual, let me know if you find any error or mistake in the chapter. Okay, I'll be working on Ake no Tobari chapter 300.

CnR-KM Vol. 6 Ch. 40

Nanaten here with the first post of 2024.

Okay, bye....

Joke aside. I have been extremely busy, that it took me a whole two weeks just to finish this chapter. So let's start from the top:

Our VCB 2023 entry is up

I participated in Vintange Chorus Battle as a ringer for this team, Six of Hearts. Our entry for the first round is Queen of Hearts. Recording this was kinda tough. There was a lot of code switching between Japanese and English involved; some awkward phrasings; and we couldn't decide on the instrumental to use. Truth to be told, I wasn't very satisfied with the final product. But at least it wasn't the worst entry in the CB.

Nanaten Awards 2023 is coming

Oh shoot, I forgot to announce it here, didn't I? So, yeah. Just like last year, we're doing another award show type of thing that also coincides with my third vtuber anniversary. The voting period is ending today. So I was a little bit late to announce it. Whoops.

Anyway, if there is still time, please go ahead and pick your favorite stream moments here.

About this chapter:

Before you proceed with this chapter, please make sure you've read the spin-off Illbeck no Seireijutsushi as next two volumes details the event of that manga from the perspective of the dragon mages. This is the volume that I am most excited about. I love crossover chapter, especially when it's tied to the character arc. Usually, manga crossovers are considered non-canon; characters meet, interact, and never get referenced again; mostly due to  the opposing nature of the respective series. But not this one. In this volume, we get the explanation on why the dragon mages appeared the way they did in the spin-off series. There are some hilarious expalanation, and they all tied to the overall lore of the series.

Also, the entire spin off was published between volume 5 and 6. So if we're going by publishing date, that's the reading order.

So anyway, here is the chapter. As usual let me know if you find any mistake or error in the chapter. Next week will be an Ake no Tobari update.

Oneshot: I am not Me

Nanaten here wishing everyone a happy holiday. I am currently spending it with my brother at the city. I've been so busy this past week, that I think I deserve myself a little R&R at the city and just hanging out with my friends so here are the stuff I did.

Did a Graduation Ceremony Livestream

I was a part of the graduation commitee for my campus and I volunteered to manage the livestream. This is my first streaming a live event, and my first time directing a livestream. I feel like all my experience of doing events and livestreaming on twitch has led me to this moment. And the result is... pretty okay, I guess. There were some hiccups and equipment failures, along with miscommunication with the camera crew. But overall, it's a pretty decent stream. Will probably doing more campus events.

Butchered Snow Halation at a live Karaoke event

I went to a live Karaoke session at a Cosplay event. Usually when I do this sort of thing, I would participate as my vtuber avatar as I couldn't be there in-person. But this time, since I am at the city, might as well go. Originally, I planned on singing Ch4nge by Giga, but I got peer pressured into singing Snow Halation. But, since I don't care about Love Live franchise, I thought might as well do a little bit of trolling. So I tried to sing Snow Halation but it's actually Baka Mitai

Except I butchered the Baka Mitai portion as well. I completely missed the vocal cue therefore messed up sections of the song. By the end of it, I just moaning "Baka mitai" over and over again. But it's still a fun experience. Will do it again next holiday season.

Played Beyblade for the first time in 20 years

Hung out with my old TCG buddies. The tcg community has a new hangout place which fortunately, is pretty close to my brother's. So I visited the place and just catch up with them. It's fascinating how much the TCG has evolved after the pandemic. For starters, I didn't know that there's a localized version of Cardfight Vanguard. I might consider coming back to Vanguard once the Bermuda Triangle support gets localized. Fun fact: Did you know that Citrus Project first started as a Cardfight Vanguard team? It was comprised of players with decks built solely on the kawaii factor. That team has long been disbanded, but their legacy lives on.

Another thing that's really popular at that place is beyblade apparently. I used to play it when I was a kid with the original anime. Back then, we played bootleg beyblade using a wok as an arena. Today, with Beyblade Burts, the local beyblade community is on the rise. I looked at some of the parts and I was baffled that they're available in booster pack. Like somehow, Takara Tomy managed to turn beyblade into a gacha game. So I decided to play for a round. And I must say, I get the hype. Pulling the string to let it rip has never felt so satisfying. I might actually start getting into it.

Saw The Boy and The Heron

Right before the writing of this post, I went and saw the new Ghibli movie, The Boy and The Heron, with my brother. My impression: it was alright. Some say it's his best work, but I wouldn't put it in top 5. I get the theme and metaphores Hayao Miyazaki was trying here, but to me some of the scenes feel like treading old threads to some of his more notable works. There's nothing groundbreaking, imo. Still, I had an enjoyable time watching it. I laughed at some of the scenes. It was a good time. Definitely gonna check out the English dub as well. I mean, Robert Pattison as the Heron? Sign me up.

About this manga

So we're doing something different. This is a one-shot manga by Yuto Oseri, Boku ga Boku Janai (I am not Me). It was published back in June at Shonen Jump+. I was browsing through rawkuma when I stumbled upon this one-shot. And I liked it so much. I mean, if I didn't I wouldn't have translated it like this.

Translating this one-shot took me a couple of weeks, cleaning and typesetting included. I thought I could finish it in one day, but I overestimated myself. Still, I'm happy the final product turned up the way it would.

So here is the one-shot. As usual, let me know if you find any error or mistake in there. Happy holidays.

It's been a while

Nanaten here wishing everyone a happy (belated) Turkey Day. Now time to sing Padoru for the next 30 days:

How have you guys been? I can't believe it's been three months since the last update. A lot has and hasn't changed since then. So why don't we catch up?

I was depressed

You know how one bad day can just send you to a deep end? One particular day back in October, I took L's after L's. In the span of twenty four hours, I: had the worst experience at a local DMV, lost my dad's money, my job application didn't fall through because of weird technicality, my gacha pull was a dud, and my stream got copyrighted. All those (and more) happened on a single day and I just couldn't handle it. The next couple of days, I just stared at my bedroom ceiling. I thought I could pull through, but the thing about grief is that it comes in waves. Just when I thought I got out of it, another wave crashes through. Next thing I know, I was shedding a tear while watching a Drawfee compilation.

During that period I had this constant pressure from everyone around me. Streaming was my only creative outlet. But I see that streaming on youtube lead to nowhere. Which leads to the second headline:

I'm on Twitch

I guess this is old news by this point: Twitch announced that they finally allows simulstream to other platforms. So I thought, why the heck not? I'd considered streaming on twitch, but I couldn't just leave my (almost nonexistent) audience on youtube. This simulcast allows me to gain more followers on twitch, while still making content on youtube. And, since I'm simulcasting, the VODs goes straight to youtube. No fuss no muss.

So yeah, I stream at least once every weekend. I play games, discuss manga, and work on my manga translation there. If you wanna say hi, just go to https://twitch.tv/citrus_nanaten and I'll see you there.

A bunch of covers

During that depression period, one of my creative outlet besides straming was singing. And there was one song that actually got me through that experience: the ending theme of "Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence," 『Tokosiesta』 by Sasanomaly. I haven't watched the anime. The song just landed on my youtube feed, and I just fell in love with it.

I did another Sasanomaly cover a month prior, and people seem to like it. One comment actually suggested me to do more. So I did.

And here's another cover of Yukopi's meme song:

Funny thing: so a Youtaite named Kai host a monthly watch party called Youtaite Rewind where people send their covers they uploaded that given month to listen to. During September and October, I send the Sasanomaly covers and both times the songs got the stream content claimed and blocked worldwide. While people seem to enjoy the covers, I am sincerely sorry that the VODs got blocked.

New Patreon Credit Page

Gone are the monthly patreon shoutout in this blog. All of the Patreon shout-out are now done in a credit page in the download zip files. I took some inspiration (if not entirely ripping off) Souseki scans patreon shoutout page. So if you guys wanna check it out, you can download the zip files, or read the chapters on mangadex.

Okay, now that you've all caught up with the going-ons in the past three months, you may proceed with the chapter. I still wanna talk more about the lower back pain I'm currently suffering at the moment of writing this post, but the pain prevents me from elaborating any further. So, let me know if you find any error or mistake in the chapter in the comments below. I'll see you next week.

CnR-KM Vol. 5 Ch. 38

Nanaten here getting ready for a school staff retreat. My eyes are super dry right now.

Recently I've been really into The Legend of Luo Xiaohei, a Chinese web animated series, and its extended universe. I saw a clip of The Legend of Hei, the animated movie prequel of the webseries, on youtube, and immediately in love with the series. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend you guys to do so. For the following week, I was struck with that lethargic feeling you get after finishing a long-running series and incapable to move on. What was the last series you watch/read that gives you that feeling? Let me know in the comments.

Other random news: they just announced that an anime adaptation of Haigakura by Takayama Shinobu (Amatsuki) is officially in the works. The announcement was leaked a couple of weeks back by MangaMogura. It was one of the highlights of that week for me. I've been a huge fan of Takayama Shinobu since I read Amatsuki back in highschool. And I've read their other works as well: Haigakura, Mr. Morning, Mr. Applicant, etc. I even cosplayed as Ichiyou, the main character of Haigakura, in 2015. It was one of my first cosplay I've ever done. So yeah, so excited for the anime and finally have my old costume relevant again.

So here's the chapter. As usual, let me know if you find any error or mistake. I'll see you once I'm back from the retreat.
